INTRODUCTION

Dr. Terry McCormick is a licensed eligible for a clinical psychologist and currently a post-doctoral fellow at FRWC and former police officer.   Dr. McCormick sees individual and couples for therapy and provides annual wellness visits in person and telehealth.   She works at the Lombard and Chicago offices.  

 

She  graduated with a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Adler School of Professional Psychology in 2011 and has with a Master’s of Science Degree in 2003 from Lewis University. She has a concentration in group psychotherapy and clinical hypnosis. With 15 years as a prior sworn police officer and over 29 years in the criminal justice realm, she blends her passions for psychology and law enforcement to support those on the front lines. As a licensed eligible clinical psychologist specializing in forensic and police psychology, she is dedicated to enhancing mental health within the field of police and public safety.

 

The population she currently sees are first responders including law enforcement, corrections, firefighters, EMS/paramedics, call-takers/dispatch, and veterans.  In her past positions, she has also serviced individuals involved in the criminal court system as well as seeing police officers, first responders, and the chronically mentally ill.  During her duties, Dr. McCormick has helped individuals by providing court ordered mental health assessments, co-facilitating group psychotherapy as well as individual therapy for domestic violence offenders, sex offenders, anger management, and individuals suffering from substance use disorders. Additionally, she has aided individuals suffering from anxiety, depression, PTSD, bipolar disorder, substance abuse, and personality disorders.

 

Dr. McCormick’s theoretical approach to treatment is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, EMDR, Adlerian, Gottman method,  Mindfulness, and Dialectic Behavioral Therapy.  She works with individuals and couples as well as provides annual wellness visits and debriefing of critical incidents. Dr. McCormick also provides Pre-employment Evaluations and Fitness for Duty evaluations.  Dr. McCormick’s focus is holistic in nature and corresponds with each client’s needs.  She supports her clients in the progression of insight and generate coping skills to improve their mental health and daily functioning.
